Young people participate in shaping the future of the city of Břeclav

School parliaments from all Břeclav primary schools and the first level of the grammar school participated in thematic round tables held on 7 October 2024 as part of the so-called Young Forum.

"This time we gave space to young people who see Břeclav a little differently. In the hall where the council meetings are usually held, the schoolchildren debated various areas from transport, through economy, culture, tourism, social and health, sport and leisure or education to the environment and the development of public space," said the deputy mayor of Breclav, Petr Vlasák. During the Young Forum, the international project CICADA4CE, which is financially supported by the Interreg Central Europe programme, was presented by urban architect Karel Bařinka and urban development expert Blanka Markova from the IURS - Institute for Sustainable Development of Settlements. One of the outcomes of the CICADA4CE project, in which the city of Breclav is a partner, will be the creation of an ecological park in Na Valtické Street.

"In the park, which will cover an area of approximately 2,500 metres, trees, shrubs and grassland will be newly planted, and a system of streams, terrain irregularities and other elements with an emphasis on natural water retention will be created," says city architect Karel Bařinka. The park will serve not only as a pleasant green corner, but also as a learning space for local children and young people, who will be able to decide on its final form in subsequent participatory workshops and living labs. In addition to the new student festival, an experience park or more trees in the city was also the wish of the children at the Young Forum, which was organised by the City of Breclav, IURS, z.s. and the UN-WHO Healthy Cities Programme.
